Happy to say, this movie rocked! I took the afternoon off Friday to spend with Miss M. Work has been slow so I figured who better to spend the day with than my best girl. I picked her up from daycare and off we went to the theater. All week long she'd been saying to her friends, her Mommy, and her teachers "Go BIG MOVIE!!!" She was beside herself with excitement.I had decided that an afternoon matinee was the way to go so as to avoid the crowds. If any of you has ever tried to go to a movie in NYC you get why. People line up an hour prior for ALL movies just to claim their seats. Rare is the time when not every seat in the theater is filled. So, per Daddy's good planning, when we got to the theater it was practically empty.
We got a HUGE tub of popcorn and a large seltzer to share (I know this sounds strange but my girl LOVES bubble water. It's practically all she drinks). We found our seats like I like them (half way down, on the aisle). There was no one in our row. I piled the coats up on her chair so she would be higher up and then took the aisle seat for myself.
Now, I don't know how it is in middle America, but the first 30 minutes in NYC are reserved for commercials and previews. Seriously??? Not even good commercial and they repeated three times!!! And then the endless stream of previews for movies that scared the CRAP out of my little girls. She started getting weepy so I put her on my lap. Once the movie started though, she had a ball! She picked at popcorn the whole time, stayed at my lap, and talked to me through the whole thing.
I was SO glad to have a good movie experience after the Princess and the Frog. Alvin wasn't complex by any stretch and is a mix of animation with real life characters, but it has NO scary parts, stays focused on the chipmunks almost the whole time, and has pretty fun songs for the little ones to dance to.
Two big thumbs up. Take that Disney!

This movie was very good, my kids loved it. They all had favorite parts and now they decide to act like they are each a different character. Only problem is now when we put them to bed they keep turning on they light and saying "Im not tired" just like at the end of the movie. Glad you guys enjoyed it and glad to see you seems in better spirits these days.
OMG, you are so funny! I have been killing myself to get to the remote every time the commercial for this movie comes on the tv because I don't want my 5 yr old to see it and ask to go. LOL. I just don't think I could stand 90 minutes of those high pitched voices. We haven't seen the first one, either, though. I am just starting to make that transition from animated things to live action movies with him, so I could always use that we haven't seen the first one as my excuse.
It's the same way in theathers here in CA. Thirty minutes for previews. It annoys me too.

CBG and I took our girls on the weekend after NYE. The kids loved it, but he and I were not fans at all. I thought the first one was much better.

My kids had no interest in that movie...could be their ages (15 and 12). Sometimes I miss going...

Glad that you had a good time. I'm not sure that I'm ready to take the going to the movies plunge with Rose. I'm going to have to take a page out of your book and do some serious planning ahead of time!
I haven't seen it, but everytime that commercial comes on I get the songs stuck in my head. And in their little chipmunk voices, not the real versions. Drives me crazy for a couple of hours! :)
I took Shiloh to this movie a couple weekends ago and she loved it. It was the first movie she's seen in the theater. (Thanks to your review, we skipped The Princess and the Frog.)
